Health Care & Senior Living Ministries

community

St. Charles Community

In 1961, the Sisters of Notre Dame answered the request from Covington, Kentucky’s Diocese to build and staff a convalescent hospital not far from the SND Covington Provincial Center.  Today, this facility is known as St. Charles Community and offers adult day care; 62 cottages and 71 apartments for seniors; a therapy department; personal care suites; home care and private duty nursing; and an outreach program for elderly people in need.

As a faith-based community, St. Charles Community’s mission has always been to serve seniors and their families in an environment of mutual trust, willing cooperation, and sincere understanding. In this loving community, dignity is preserved, quality of life is improved and the whole person, both their body and their spirit, will be cared for with a deep devotion to the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.

HealthCare

St. Claire HealthCare

In 1963, the Sisters of Notre Dame opened the doors to the St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky. The Center began as a general acute-care hospital with 41 beds, nine nurses and six physicians representing three medical specialties.  Today, St. Claire HealthCare is an integrated, not-for-profit Catholic healthcare system with 159 beds, seven primary care locations, a multi-specialty medical pavilion, an outpatient center and homecare services.  It serves five counties and operates three retail services.  It is the largest hospital in Northeastern Kentucky and the largest employer in the region with nearly 1,000 staff members and 100 medical providers representing 32 medical specialties.

St. Claire HealthCare is committed to providing quality health care in a caring environment through the living of its mission:  To proclaim God’s goodness through a healing ministry to the people of Eastern Kentucky.

Village

Notre Dame Village

Notre Dame Village in Chardon, Ohio is a community of living and learning, thoughtfully designed and constructed by the Sisters of Notre Dame.  Located in a bucolic setting, Notre Dame Village offers independent and supportive residences for adults 65 years of age and older with cottage homes, independent living apartments, and unique “small houses” for memory care assisted living for adults 55 and over.

Notre Dame Village represents a unique collaboration between SND USA and Jennings.  The Sisters of Notre Dame own the facilities, and services are provided by Jennings.  Locally sourced food and services, a chapel, auditorium, intergenerational and spiritual programs and SND sisters as neighbors set Notre Dame Village apart from other residential senior housing options.

"... so far the dear God has always taken care and will certainly continue to do so."

– Sister Maria Aloysia to Hendrina and Joseph Honsel, Letter VI, Oct. 25, 1886
